TWO PALESTINIAN POLITICAL PRISONERS FIGHTING LONG HUNGER-STRIKES

Five Palestinian political prisoners are currently on hunger strike in Israeli occupation's jails.

Here we introduce you to the two prisoners who have been on hunger strike the longest; the three others are Adib Mafarja from Beit Laqiya on hunger strike for 12 days, Fuad Assi on hunger strike for 12 days and Shukri Khawaja for 4 days. All three are held in solitary confinement.

SAMI AL-JANAZREH

Sami al-Janazreh(43) from al-Fawwar refugee camp near Hebron was arrested by Israel's occupation forces on February 15th and is currently in administrative detention without charges.

He has previously been imprisoned for a total of seven years without charges and started a hunger strike to avoid spending more of his life in Israeli occupation prison under these unjust terms. He is refusing vitamins and drinks only water.

He has been on hunger strike for 41 days today and as punishment his personal belongings has been confiscated and he has been put in solitary confinement and can no longer walk and by April 8th had lost 16 kilograms from his weight.

EYAD AHMED FAWAGHRA

Eyad Ahmad Fawaghra from Bethlehem has been imprisoned for 11 years by Israeli occupation, which has sentenced him to 27 years in prison.

He was detained by the occupation during the Second Intifada, but we have been unable to find out the cause or excuse for his imprisonment by the occupation.

His hunger-strike came to knowledge of Palestinian authorities and prisoner activists only few days ago; overall he seems to be a 'forgotten prisoner', a man buried alive in the Israeli occupation's prison system. No source even gives his age.

Fawaghra has been on hunger strike for 32 days. He drinks only water and refuses to take vitamins. His only demand is that Israel allows his mother and brothers to visit him.

Israel's answer has been to take his clothes and bed covers away and to deny him the use of shower, with twice daily inspections of his cell.
