1. There has been no suicide bombings by occupied Palestinians against the occupier Israel since 2008.

During the entire 21st century the total number of Israeli civilians killed directly or indirectly (including heart attacks from shock etc) from both rocket and mortar attacks is less than 40. During this year alone Israel has killed over 2300 Palestinians, highest number since 1982 and the highest number of Palestinians killed in historical Palestine by Israel since 1967.

During the last quarter of a century, since the beginning of the First Intifada, the total number of Palestinians killed by Israel is over 11 000 and the number of Israelis killed by Palestinians is less than 1500.

2. Because United States government wants to control the all peaceful negotiations, knowing that if the peace process is moved into an arena which it itself doesn't control, then Israel's territorial demands and demand of future control of all borders of a Palestinian state will be pushed aside, as they have no standing in international law and accepting them would just legitimize actions of other states, like Russia with Crimea.
If you are not a heterosexual Anglo-Saxon(ized) Jewish male of at least lower middle class social-standing, you are not among the target audience to whom Philip Roth wrote his work.

It's also the reason why Philip Roth will never win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Not many members of his target audience are deciding who gets it, unlike in the Anglo-Saxon cultural circles, which have given him his fame and the prices he has won.

Like Norman Mailer, he's a misogynist, but at least Norman Mailer had a vision large enough to embrace people and societies (but not really the other gender) which he did not identify with. He was a universal writer. Philip Roth, to put it ugly, is a niche writer who doesn't want to get out of the ghetto of his own making, because he doesn't like the people outside it.

Philip Roth can write a novel about racism set in the 1930s without bringing up racism towards African-Americans, Philip Roth thinks that an African-American man who gets educated is envious of Jews and wants to become one of them, enough to lose his own identity.

And Philip Roth, like one critic put it, has only three subjects: The young male sexual beast, the middle-aged male sexual beast and the old male sexual beast.

To this we could add that his subjects are also WASMJs, White Anglo-Saxon Male Jews. Most of them are Philip Roth or had their seeds in particular character straits of Philip Roth as seen by himself. He is, in the end, a writer who made a small circle around himself early in his career and never crossed it.

To be developed:

Jesus was a heresiarch, perhaps unknowingly so coming outside the established religious order and perhaps stranger to it's codes. Certainly we can see his fate as a result of failing to observe and follow existing religious hierarchies, channels and positions available to a man of his rank - lower class man from a recently (forcefully) converted area, with no claim to heritage in the priestly caste and thus lacking any chance of advancing among the hierarchy, finding no accepted way of channeling his religiosity after refusing to accept the role of a humble pious man, a hermit in the desert -figure.

Deciding to take up religious calling, to make sermons in the open and take up and teach followers was, in it's essence, his death sentence. Everything else was just following the path ordained at that month, the typical story of a heresiarch in conflict with established religion and those who controlled it and drew their social position from it.

But, Jesus as a man from recently converted area came outside the core of hierachical, deep-rooted Judaism in more than one way. He represented the forces in Judaism at that moment that sought (more or less) universality instead of closed status quo. We might make the claim that he was a representative of a Hellenistic working class Judaism, driven by insticts and needs alien to the priestly caste and the Jewish elite.

The needs of the individual, in this life and the next, microhistory of one's own soul, were being in place of the grand macrohistorical drama where the Jewish people - and especially it's leaders, political and especially religious (guardians of the legacy of the mythical political rulers of the supposed past golden age of Judaism) went through their dysfunctional relationship with their god with the world they know as the stage.

Although the New Testament makes claim of royal descent for Jesus, we can disregard any thought of authencity for these. These are the usual claims made for a hidden link to the sources of the religion, typical of heresies (in Christianity heresies and reformers have always claimed theirs to be true Christian religion and both them and the inquisitors coming up with unlikely historical links spanning centuries), and in the aftermath of a major religious figure's passing they are always made into scions of royal houses, no matter the religion in question. We can look at Buddha, Boddhidharma and the Irish monks establishing monasteries in heathen lands during the darkest Middle Age. A century after their deaths and each and everyone was a prince in death, although probably not in life.

It's unlikely that Jesus would have made such a claim, as it would have moved him directly into political arena where only armed rebellion would have been an option. Herodean kings and priestly caste would have seen any Davidian pretender as a threat extraordinaire and he would have been put to death immediately. So, such claim comes after his death, from among believers exalting their lost master.

So, the role Jesus chose for himself was a religious one. We can see him as the "voice of the people", the people being outsiders from the fringes of Jewish society of the time in Palestine: The recently converted, the underclass, the ones lacking 'proper' religious training and thus a right to teach in public. So typical of heresies of later times in Christianity.

Jesus was an outsider, but probably more to the priestly hierarchy than in his own eyes. We can assume the typical naivety of the heresiarch, expecting to be praised and accepted by the priestly elite, at least at some point was his mindset and possibly until almost to the end. The heresiarch, after all, starts, in his or her own eyes, as an insider or someone at least wanting to be an insider, seeking both a channel to pour out their religious devotion and to seek the acceptance (and perhaps social uplifting by) of their supposed 'superiors', both in religion and society.

My two connected posts for I am Palestinian I am not a terrorist made on 28 November 2014:

ITALIAN ACTIVIST SHOT, CRITICALLY INJURED ON WEST BANK PROTEST RALLY BY ISRAEL'S OCCUPATION FORCES

In today's weekly Kufr Qaddum protest against the occupation and closing of the main local road for Palestinians, an Italian activist has been shot in the stomach and critically injured by Israel's occupation forces.

The Italian activist, member of International Solidarity Movement, has been identified in Palestinian sources as Prodo Corsi, 30, but the first name appears to be wrong based on online comments. Italian articles so far either use no name or only the last name. (EDIT: The victim's name has been confirmed to be Patrick Corsi.)

According to differing accounts in the media the injured activist has been taken either to Nablus or Ramallah hospital and is described to be in a "critical, but stable" condition.

Several other people have been injured with rubber bullets in today's protests and many others suffer from tear gas inhalation.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT IN THE KUFR QADDUM SHOOTING STORY AND ANOTHER SHOOTING INCIDENT AT NABI SALEH

As reported earlier today, an Italian International Solitary Movement activist identified as "Prodo Corsi" by Maan News Agency and now named as Patrick Corsi, 30, was shot and severely injured in the Kufr Qaddum weekly protest by Israel's occupation forces.

At first it was reported he was shot in the stomach, but later reports correct that he was shot in the chest from a distance of 40 meters and that the bullet remains in his chest cavity. The bullet narrowly missed a major blood vessel. He was critically injured, but is in a stable condition according to Ramallah hospital director Ahmad Bitawi.

ISM article describing the shooting quotes an eye-witness: "The military had fired three rounds of tear gas, and then a shot rang out an Patrick stumbled back. There was between five and ten minutes from the last tear gas canister fired and the bullet that shot Patrick. He was just standing there, peacefully protesting, wearing a hi-viz jacket, he wasn’t doing anything and they just decided to shoot him.”

Another victim, 18 y/o Sami Jumma was shot twice with live ammunition by the Israeli occupation forces which were clearly trying to cause casualties among the protesters. The Israeli bullets hit Sami in hand and chest and he is in a stable condition after surgery to remove the bullet.

In Nabi Saleh weekly protest 14 y/o Ahmed Barghouti was shot in a leg with live ammunition by Israeli occupation forces soldier, as was reported by ISM and shown in the TAMIMI PRESS photographs.

I think we constantly under-estimate the intellectual capacities of the hominids - and over-estimate the level of intelligence needed to produce for example these geometrical forms. We should remember that these were humans and although they would not have been able to construct spaceships, abstract thinking at some level probably was attainable to them. Too often we think that everything that made us human happened during the last stretch to us, instead of incremental development of what now makes us what we are today as species.

FRANCE LAWMAKERS VOTE 339-151 IN SUPPORT OF RECOGNIZING PALESTINE

Following similar votes in several other European countries including Spain, the United Kingdom and the senate of Ireland, the French parliament has voted in support of recognizing Palestine.

339 French lawmakers voted in support of recognizing Palestine and 151 against.

The vote doesn't officially bind the government - which has talked about recognizing Palestine unilaterally only if yet another future round of peace negotiations would fail - but shows that even the politicians in European Union countries are following their voters in finally supporting the occupied against the occupier instead of hiding behind the endless calls of more "peace talks" which just buy more time for Israel to build more illegal settlements on occupied land.

This vote will encourage politicians in other countries to follow and the next step will be governments officially adopting these non-binding resolutions and making them official, as Sweden has done.

23 y/o young woman is dead after having been denied medical care by Israel's occupation forces. Resistance against occupation is a right enshrined in international law and not "terrorism". Israel has been offered peace many times on pre-1967 lines but refuses and illegally sends "civilians" as illegal settlers on the occupied areas, putting them deliberately in danger in it's attempt to steal more and more land.

We all know how the interrogation went: It was torture. There is no way this youth is a member of Hamas - he turned himself in the day after the incident. Hamas' or other resistance group member would not have done that. Hamas' supporters would have also publicly supported him. Now there's been crickets and tumbleweed. This was an accident.
Hares Boys

Five Palestinian teenagers are facing life imprisonment for a crime that never happened. A settler car accident labels them as "terrorists". Fight for justice for the Hares Boys!

Israeli military court is no court of justice. It is a brutal system that systematically treats Palestinians, including children, in humiliating, dangerous, and unjust ways. Military court ‘hearings’ in occupied Palestine are conducted in Hebrew, a language many detainees and their families do not speak; the soldiers whose job it is to translate for the families often play with their phones instead.

However, the presence of international observers – especially diplomatic representatives – at Israeli court ‘hearings’ does make a difference to the way the boys and their families are treated. That is why we are asking you to contact your embassy in Tel Aviv and/or consulate in Jerusalem and kindly demand that they consider attending Hares Boys ‘hearings’, currently held at Salem military court. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Find your respective embassy or pick one from the list.

To [Ambassador’s Name]

I am writing to request your presence at the upcoming court hearings of five Palestinian schoolboys at Salem Military Court. The boys are: Mohammed Kleib, Mohammed Suleiman, Ali Shamlawi, Ammar Souf, Tamer Souf.

In March 2013, five teenage boys from Hares village (Salfit district, occupied Palestine) were arrested and charged with 20 counts of attempted murder for allegedly throwing stones at an Israeli settler’s car. They received these charges despite an overwhelming lack of evidence.

Ever since, the boys have been imprisoned, first in Al-Jalame interrogation center and later in Megiddo prison, both inside the 1948 territories of Israel (as I’m sure you know, transferring detained / arrested / imprisoned people from occupied territories to the territory of the occupier violates international law, specifically the Fourth Geneva Convention).

Each boy reported being tortured, including being held in solitary confinement for as long as two weeks and being beaten by soldiers and other prison personnel. The boys have only been granted very limited visits with both their families and their lawyers. Each of their court hearings has been closed to outside observers. Moreover, the boys’ trials have continuously been postponed, meaning they have been awaiting trial for over a year and a half now.

It is difficult to comprehend how terrible this ordeal must be for the boys and their families.

I ask you to attend the next court hearing, as your presence as an international observer will ensure that these boys receive as fair a trial as is possible in a military court system. I hope that you will attend and I look forward to hearing your response.

If you need more information about the court hearing, please email the Hares Boys campaign team at: haresboys@gmail.com. Alternatively please have a look at the detailed account of the Hares Boys case online: http://haresboys.wordpress.com/

Thank you very much in advance.

Yours sincerely,

SUOMI / FINNISH

Arvoisa Suomen diplomaattinen edustajisto,

kirjoitan täten teille pyytäen osallistumistanne Israelin vangitsemien viiden palestiinalaisen lapsen seuraaviin oikeusistuntoihin, jotta heidän tapaustensa käsittely edistyisi myönteisellä tavalla ja he saisivat osakseen kansainvälisten lakien vaatiman kohtelun.

With Pats Kokomo:

GAZA WAR STILL CLAIMING VICTIMS

Mohammed Siam, who died today aged 14, was an inspiring boy who seemed to have overcome the terrible injuries he suffered in Gaza during Israel's offensive.

In August he was visited by journalist Allison Deger in E. Jerusalem hospital, and was described thus:

"The first day I visited the hospital Mohammed cried for hours. His right leg is gone from the air strike, an arm broken, shrapnel is still lodged inside of his torso, but most noticeably he is rail thin. His grandfather who crossed from Gaza with him said he was always slender, but Mohammed hasn’t been eating. And when he does, he vomits. He can’t sit up, because his back is in crushing pain."

The news about his death today has come as a terrible shock, as after transfer to hospital in Turkey he seemed to be on the mend, adjusting to his new prosthesis leg he had gotten at the beginning of November.

His death reminds us of the tens of thousands of people injured in the war, among which are about a thousand children injured for life.

Below is an PNN news article announcing the passing of this child who would have deserved so much more:

PNN/ #Gaza

Mohammed Siam, 14 years old, from Gaza lost his leg in an israeli bombardment during the latest aggression on Gaza last July.

After he lost 12 members of his family, and both of his legs, Mohammad was moved to #Jerusalem to receive treatment there.

Later he was moved to #Turkey where he obtained artificial legs and finally improved his health.

On Tuesday, Mohammed needed a respiratory tract and lung operation, where he was announced dead.

Israeli offensive on Gaza last July and August killed about 2,200 Palestinians, about 500 of which were children.

More than 11,000 Palestinians were injured. Some neighborhoods were completely flattened, and about 30,000 houses were demolished.

Har Nof is next to Deir Yassin, the site of 1948 massacre when Zionists killed about 125 civilians (and claimed to have killed twice that). Two dozen captured men were taken on the back of a truck through cheering Jewish crowds celebrating the massacre and were shot in a quarry.

Colonialists who go to lands where natives live under oppression can never be fully safe as long as oppression goes on and justice has not been done, no matter the illusions the colonialists have about the land and the situation there.

On two consecutive nights bodies of killed Palestinian men has been found in areas relatively close to each other. First it was Nehad Naholwa, 35, near Zemer, now Fuad Halaf.

Let's be frank, the reason why these deaths are being called 'criminal' by Israeli police when in both cases killers and motive are unidentified is because the dead were Palestinians and not Jews.

If these would have been Jews killed there would have been uproar and mass arrests in the neighbouring Arab towns and villages, but now... crickets and tumbleweed.

Halaf's death especially carries signs of a very violent and hateful attack, he had bruises around his body, had been choked and then stabbed repeatedly. It could be a "normal" crime, or it could be a 'nationalistic' hate crime.

In neither case there has been no reports of theft of the property of the dead. Halaf's car was found near his body.

Acre, Jaffa and Haifa are both being ethnically cleansed of Palestinians by Israel, and quite openly. Palestinian neighbourhoods and isolated homes are being razed to make place for houses where de facto only Jews are allowed to live.

And let's put in here the number of non-segregated schools in Israel: According to different sources, it's either 4 or 5.

Apartheid, Jim Crow, segregation. All apt names for it.

When it comes to illegal Israeli settlements, well... only Jews are allowed to live in them. There was even a court case about it in the early 90s which went up to the Israeli High Court, but the Israeli Arab man who was behind it, lost it there.

My comment: Those who complain about this should look at the family photograph of al-Kilani family. Father had a German nationality and he was killed along with his wife and their five small children by Israel during the Gaza war in the summer:

He was an engineer, not a militant. So, if you complain about the 'uncivility' of the journalists, do remember that the al-Kilani family hasn't got the privilege of being treated like Gregor Gysi here, because they are dead and Gysi de facto supported their murder and that of 2200 others in Gaza by Israel's racist rightwing government.

The Guerrilla Women Fighting ISIS

My 10 November post for I am Palestinian I am not a terrorist:

Is this the day one can say for sure that a Third Intifada has began?

It has been proclaimed before and it's possibility has been denied by the Palestinian Authority, but Israel's increasingly aggressive actions that make the two state solution through negotiations impossible have finally reached the stage when even the Western media could agree that a Third Intifada has begun:

That is the stage when Israel suffers casualties regularly. For the Western media peace and stability reigns in the occupied areas as long as only Palestinians die and are injured - events which are given little or no notice - but that is no longer the case.

Today a soldier and an illegal settler died in attacks that also cost the live of one attacker - a young man named Maher Hamdi al-Hashlamon apparently left to bleed to death as medical attention was given only to the injured illegal settlers - and which follow the deadly incidents in occupied E. Jerusalem.

If a Third Intifada has indeed began, everybody should remember that the choice between political, non-violent and armed resistance is the choice that only Palestinians can make for themselves and that those who support their cause should not think that they know better than Palestinians which path they should choose.

The blood that would flow as a result of a Third Intifada would be, as it has been in recent months, mostly Palestinian. It would be a heavy price to pay and the ensuing violence more widespread than ever before based on the recent evidence. A price that no foreign supporter can demand that the Palestinians should pay.

Islamic Jihad's involvement today will likely lead to Israeli attacks on Gaza and the Green Line might be no dividing line between Palestinians, as Israeli regime's increasing extremism leaves minorities in Israel itself few chances to accommodate themselves with the regime in the manner of the Arameans. Israel is leaving Arab populations in Galilee and Negev no other options than total submission or embracing the Palestinian cause.

Protest Bafta hosting Israel Sponsored Jewish Film Festival 8 Nov 2014 avi

Israel's has deliberately planted the seeds of E. Jerusalem violence and watered them and is now collecting the harvest. Of course the violence will spread. Israel's rulers and their illegal settler henchmen want a Third Intifada which they intend to use to excuse annexation and ethnic cleansing on both sides of the Green Line.

What Israel and it's vassal state USA have never understood is that no Palestinian leader can persuade the Palestinian people accept the Israeli terms that would indefinitely continue the occupation under another name and leave millions on refugee camps. Arafat, let's remember, with rest of the PLO leadership made enormous and unpopular concessions until they could do no more and still have at least partial support from the people. The people in the end decide, not the leaders who just represent the people. Now Israel and USA have the weak Abbas in charge of PA, but he has offered them the concessions they expected, because he understands, like Arafat did, where the people draw the line.

PalWatch is a racist hate group and when it comes to hit&runs, a dozen Palestinians have died in them during last year and no illegal Israeli settlers responsible has been charged for these or previous attacks during the last ten years.

Israel can't allow it's illegal settlers to kill people with cars and then expect that the oppressed wouldn't start to follow the oppressors' example.

Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian teenager late Friday during clashes in Silwad village near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, medical officials said.

Orwa Abd al-Wahhab Hammad, 14, was shot multiple times with live bullets. He was taken to Palestine Medical Complex where he was pronounced dead.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said that soldiers fired at a Palestinian adult who was hurling a Molotov cocktail at forces in the area.

Zionists murdered a 16 y/o child in his own occupied land, Hamid Abdul Wahab, who lived his entire life under occupation and this is how they report it. The word 'Nazi' to describe the despicable IDF / IOF is not far from my mind at the moment. Israel is not only a state that does not respect the lives of Palestinians, the very idea of their lives having value is utterly alien to it and to the majority of adult Israeli Jews.

No, you don't have that right Rivlin, because you oppress an entire nation and force it's people to walk in fear.

As long as you continue to do so, you should be yourself forced to walk and drive in fear in everywhere you go, Zionists.

Israel is building illegal settlement housing units by the thousands, demolishing and taking over homes on a weekly basis, sending illegal settlers to march on al-Aqsa compound on every second day, cut off water to Shuafat refugee camp for months, has arrested almost 900 Palestinians since the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir by illegal settlers - all in an effort to drive Palestinians out of East Jerusalem and when Palestinians respond to this, the arrogant Israeli settler mindset is to complain about 'Palestinian violence'. Israel reaps what it sows and by all accounts, the violence is what Israel's regime and it's illegal settlers want, it's part of the plan of intimidation they have.

On Oct 19 Israeli settler from the illegal colony of Yitzhar drove over two Palestinian girls coming from kindergarten. Inas Shawkat, 5, died, her friend is still fighting for her life in hospital. The driver escaped from the scene and to this day has not been arrested, but is back in the illegal colony, whose settlers yesterday were told to have burned between 100-200 olive trees.

Hit&run attacks on Palestinian pedestrians by illegal Israeli settlers have become weekly, the death toll a dozen since last December, when a 13 y/o girl was killed in hit&run attack by an illegal settler in East Jerusalem. All the settlers behind the attacks are alive, free and well, Palestinians are always killed and even what look like normal traffic accidents declared immediately to be 'terror attacks' to justify the killing.

If the driver survives the immediate aftermath, death will still soon come in the hands of Israel, like for Raed al-Jabari, who was beaten to death in September by Israeli prison guards and whose autopsy has been declared secret by Israel, which claims he hanged himself so that the prison guards can get away and kill again, like the illegal Israeli settlers speeding down roads in occupied East Jerusalem and West Bank, looking for more victims.

Monday, October 20, 2014

Justifying the lynching, nothing to say about the murder.

During the last year, about ten Palestinians have been killed in hit-and-run cases by Israeli settlers in occupied areas - and two more in Israel itself.

As far as I know, none of the Israelis who caused these deaths have been arrested or jailed.

Palestinians involved in traffic accidents with Israeli settlers or occupation forces tend to always die. If not killed immediately, then in prison.

And it's taken granted by mainstream Israeli media - not to speak of state representatives - that all these cases were "attacks" and all cases of Palestinians being killed by Israeli drives were "accidents".

There's only one word for this: Racism.

Although a local mullah has been charged and awaits trial, powerful groups in the community want to kill Brishna for "bringing shame" on her family.

We need to act fast: death threats are pouring in – even from relatives and religious leaders.

Demand Afghan authorities protect Brishna against the threat of an "honour" killing.

After she was released from hospital, Brishna was taken to a shelter run by Women for Afghan Women for protection.

Despite male relatives threatening to "kill her and dump her in the river" local police removed Brishna from the shelter and returned her to her family.

Call on police to protect Brishna and staff at the shelter, and investigate the threats against them.

Honour killings are an ongoing problem in Afghanistan. Shockingly, Afghanistan’s Penal Code recommends reduced sentences in murder cases when honour is the motivation. When a murderer is convicted for an honour killing, they receive no more than two years jail.

I would think that supporting Apartheid, Ethnic Cleansing and torturing people to death would be more reason to be ashamed, but apparently it's a case of "Judaism Makes It Right" and as a result what would be evil in other circumstances comes magically good because it's done by Jews and not to Jews.

Other sources claim that Kissinger's reason was that Cuba sent troops to support the new communist government of Angola in 1975 after the country gained independence from Portugal and was attacked by Apartheid South Africa and the UNITA rebels, which were supported by a bizarre alliance which included USA, Apartheid South Africa and North Korea.

Previously USA had supported yet another rebel group, FNLA, with Israel and communist China and Romania...

Angola endured 27 years of civil war until Angolan government - by then supported by also USA - killed UNITA's leader Jonas Savimbi in 2002. The same government which USA and Apartheid South Africa wanted to overthrow in 1975 still rules the country, after having changed communism to capitalistic cleptocracy, and is now backed by China thanks to the vast resources Angola has.

The criminal Benjamin Netanyahu is now using the arena of the United Nations to continue his deception, lies, threats, intimidation and misdirection, attempting to cover up his and his army’s terror massacres against Palestinian civilians, children and elders, who are still being killed in cold blood in full view of the world, said the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in response to Netanyahu’s speech at the UN General Assembly...

...Once again, the Front emphasized the importance of prosecuting the Zionist war criminals in international courts for their crimes against the Palestinian people, which requires Palestinian officials to urgently sign the Rome Statute and join the International Criminal Court, and immediately file to prosecute the leaders of the occupier as war criminals.

United States has been morally bankrupt country always when it comes to their "justice" system. Public prosecutors using court cases as springboards to political careers is just one the reasons why "justice" so rarely happens in cases like this.

To be an Arab or Muslim and to be accused of terrorism in the USA means that you are certain to be convicted one way or another, but this doesn't trouble 99 % of "Americans", who just sing their old song how they have the "Best Justice System in the World" - like they did during the Jim Crow era lynchings.

It's a rotten country and it's justice system, like every other part of it's system of governance, seems to successfully oppose all attempts at reform.

My only problem with this is the way you mentioned Western Sahara, which is the last colony in Africa and which like Palestine has been trapped in endless peace process where the Western countries supporting the occupier, in this case Morocco, allow the occupation to continue even when Morocco has for twenty years successfully stopped the independence referendum from going on. Western Sahara needs it's liberty. Polisario, the independence movement of Western Sahara, is secular and wants to establish a secular state. Morocco, on the other hand, is a "security state". Prominent Saharawi human rights activist Hassana al-Wali just died imprisoned, after years of torture and mistreatment. The Saharawi deserve their independence and their culture is far from the puritan austerity the Saudi Wahhabis want to enforce in Muslim countries - just look at the prominent role of women both in the Saharawi culture and their independence struggle. I enjoy reading your blog, but please, don't believe the Moroccan propaganda in this issue. Supporting the independence of Western Sahara is not about being trendy, but allowing the Saharawi to leave refugee camps and live in peace in their own country. And Morocco itself needs true democratic change.

There's one thing that has troubled me about the way IS/ISIL/ISIS has behaved.
After major victories it started to behead 'Western' captives at a time when it could have and - logically alone - should have concentrated on consolidation and avoid larger confrontation,
Instead it basically goaded the 'West' to attack like a cowardly bull-fighter goads a bull.
Why on earth would IS/ISIL/ISIS have done this? Over-confidence, wanting to keep alliance with Iraqi troops - or it's own ranks - together by a big, common enemy, dangerous way to lure new recruits - or else its leadership knows something that the 'Western' leaders (and us) don't....
I have no idea what it could be, but I can't shake away the feeling that they should have not acted in this manner if there's any pragmatism in their commanders.
