Afghanistan's Bamiyan Buddhas may rise again from rubble

Rebuilt the Buddhas if it´s possible, but why not build them as they were in
their prime in the late antiquity? (They were in a bad shape before they
were destroyed and during the last few decades had already suffered damage
in gunfire - one would have to recreate uncountable number of small holes left
by bullets too if the statues are to be build in the manner they were before
the Taliban destroyed them.) After all, the destruction can´t be undone, so
why don´t build them so that they can last another 1500 years?

By the way, nobody really knows certainly how old the statues were,
Afghanistan being part of the larger Indian realm, whose history of this
era - and many others - is chronologically a mess.
