The Western countries allow Elon Musk to do whatever he wants just like they allow Benyamin Netanyahu to do whatever he wants.
Why? Because the whole Western economical and political system, the whole world order, is to built to benefit men like them.
And even when they (and other men like them) have now destroyed the Potemkin's Facades that tried to give the system a veneer of respectability and legality, the Western system still keeps working for them.
The international liberal order, free market capitalism, rule of law - they have been all cast aside by powerful, privileged men for whose benefit all of those now discarded things existed, because these men couldn't accept even nominal limits to their power, limits that mainly existed only to make the system more palatable to people who had little or no power under it.
Donald Trump's role is to be a presidential spear in their hands, a spear that any of these wealthy and powerful men can use in exchange of money or services to Trump and his family.
