Democratic party doesn´t really exist in the federal level at least for the next two years in the US. The Republicans control the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate. One American myth that failed now (again) is the one which claims that the American voters "balance" their vote, for example voting a Democrat as a President and Republican for the Senate, and thus make sure that one party doesn´t get too much power.
