The possible last common ancestor of all the great apes - humans, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orangutangs - have been found from Catalonia. Pierolapithecus catalaunicus lived about 13 million years ago, weighted about 35 kilograms and had a spine more like the great apes than their closest living relatives, like gibbons. More.
