Seems that the persons behind this study and the folk at New
Scientist haven´t followed the new findings in human evolution
in the last 15 or so years - or else they are one of the last
supporters of the multiregional model of human evolution.

If they don´t know this much what they are studying, then why
bother at all? And secondly, in how many of these languages
that they have studied it can be proved that the word isn´t
a loan word from some other language?
